COMPOSERS

Joseph M. Colombo is a Boston-based composer whose work is characterized by a strong rhythmic drive and vibrant energy. He has studied with Susan Con Lackman, Daniel Crozier, David Maslanka, Dalit Warshaw, Curtis Hughes, and Jan Swafford and has participated in masterclasses with Frank Wildhorn, Simon Bainbridge, and Samuel Adler.

His works have been performed by the Juventas Ensemble, the Xanthos Ensemble, the Ludovico Ensemble, the Interlochen Philharmonic, the Orlando Philharmonic and a plethora of solo artists. He was published by The Percussive Arts Society Massachusetts Chapter in their 2008 Snare Drum Collection alongside composers Ken Ueno and Andy Vores.

Mr. Colombo holds a Bachelor’s degree in music composition from the Boston Conservatory and is currently pursuing a Master’s at the San Francisco Conservatory.

 

 

A composer, singer, and conductor, Patrick Greene (b. 1985) is a rising artist in the world of contemporary art music.

Hailed by the Boston Musical Intelligencer as a composer of “true musicality,” Mr. Greene writes music that wholeheartedly embraces the aesthetic diversity of the modern world. Recent engagements include performances by the Boston Musica Viva, the Atlanta Chamber Players, the New Haven Symphony Orchestra (and Wind Quintet), Ensemble Amarcord, and many others. As a frequently commissioned choral composer, Patrick’s music has been performed by choirs across the United States as well as Germany, Portugal, and Italy.

In the fall of 2010, Patrick won the Rapido! New England competition. In January, 2011, at the Rapido! Take Two!! National Finals in Atlanta, his piece abstractEXTRACTION garnered the Internet Audience Favorite Award. Mr. Greene’s piece The Long Walk was recently chosen as the official anthem of Trinity College’s Cornerstone Campaign, a $32.9 million-dollar restoration project. In 2011, Patrick became the youngest commissioned composer in the two-decade history of BMV Family Concerts.

Mr. Greene earned his MM degree in Composition from The Boston Conservatory in May 2010, where he studied with Andy Vores and Dalit Warshaw. He graduated with a BA in Music from Trinity College in 2007, as a student of Gerald Moshell and Douglas Bruce Johnson.

Patrick is a member of the Society for Music Theory, the American Composers’ Forum, CompositionToday.com, and the Society of Composers, Inc. He is also a founding member of the Fifth Floor Collective and the Equilibrium Concert Series. Outside of music, he is the Global HR Coordinator for Oxfam America, an international NGO headquartered in Boston.

 

 

Andrew Paul Jackson (b. 1984) is a prolific young composer with an eclectic style known for works of unfaltering lyricism and sleek construction. His compositions run the gamut of genres from short solo instrumental works to larger Pierrot and orchestral ensembles, a vocal cantata, and his first opera, Grigori Efimovich: The Memory of Liars. In recognition of his work as a composer, Mr. Jackson was the winner of The Boston Conservatory’s 2008-2009 Orchestral Composition Competition and was the recipient of the conservatory’s 2009 Roger Sessions Memorial Composition Award. Following graduation, Jackson founded and serves as the artistic director of The Fifth Floor Collective. 

Born in Springfield, Missouri, Andrew began studying cello and guitar at the age of eleven and started composing shortly thereafter. He has worked regionally in the Midwest as a conductor for the Springfield-Drury Civic Orchestra, The Messiah Project of the Ozarks, and Vandivort Center Theatre. He was asked to write the program notes for the Springfield Symphony’s 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 seasons. In 2007, Mr. Jackson was chosen by the DSCH Journal to write three articles concerning Dmitri Shostakovich’s Opus 87 24 Preludes and Fugues for publication.

Mr. Jackson’s compositions have been performed by the Juventas Ensemble, the Xanthos Ensemble, The Boston Chamber Orchestra, The Moscow Chamber Orchestra, ensemble21, The Boston Conservatory Orchestra, and The Springfield Symphony and have been broadcasted on KSMU radio. He has studied composition with Andy Vores, Dalit Warshaw, and Carlyle Sharpe, as well as conducting under the tutelage of Christopher Koch and David Goza. Mr. Jackson holds an MM in Composition from The Boston Conservatory and a BA in Music Composition and Theory from Drury University.

 

 

Craig Pellet was born and raised in northwest New Jersey, beginning his musical studies on piano at the age of five. His interest in music expanded further as he began playing trombone and, in high school, began composing complete musical works by the age of 14. One of these works earned him Second Prize in the Harmonium Choral Society’s High School Composition Contest. Pellet completed his undergraduate degree in Composition at Shenandoah Conservatory, studying with William Averitt, and Jena Root. During his time there, he was awarded the 2006 Presser Scholarship for outstanding students in music.

In April of 2006, Craig became the first student of Shenandoah Conservatory to have a composition performed by the institution’s Symphony Orchestra. Rhapsodic Dances, scored for trombone and orchestra, was premiered by the Shenandoah Conservatory Symphony Orchestra with Jan Wagner conducting and soloist James Martin (for whom the piece was written). At the conclusion of this premiere, Pellet was asked to compose a piece for the Shenandoah Conservatory Wind Ensemble by the director, Scott Nelson. This piece, entitled Invention, was premiered in November of 2006 under the direction of the composer. Additionally, Craig was asked to take part in a collaboration with C. Thomas Shaw, Professor of Cello at Shenandoah Conservatory. The resulting work, Of Memory and Distance, was premiered as a part of a program entitled River Child featuring dance choreography by Ting-Yu Chen in March of 2007. Recently, Craig was awarded the Prix Nadia Boulanger at the American Conservatory in Fontainebleau, France. His work for wind ensemble, Static Regression, performed by The Boston Conservatory Wind Ensemble under the direction of Eric Hewitt is available on iTunes on the album Deviation (2010, GM Recordings).
